Kolkata - as it is known as the city of joy boast of some rich cultural heritages that is famous all over the world . Firstly , we should must mention the age old monument Victoria memorial , as it is called replicant of the Taj Mahal which is situated in Agra . It is a very beautiful place situated right at the main junction of the Jawaharlal Nehru Road & The Red Road . People flock at this place specially during the saturdays & the sundays with their kids & have fun . Just beside this historical wonder lies the Birla Planetorium . It is a scientific center where astronomical shows are carried . Next we can mention the name of the National Library which lies beside the Alipore Zoo . This library is the oldest library in India which constitutes some handsome number of books . The Akashbani Bhavan which is actually the radio center can also be visited .The Jawaharlal Nehru Museum OR THE iNDIAN Museum is visited as s0me historic treasures are kept under tight security . Beside the Hoogly lies the second largest stadium of the world which is the Eden Gardens . It is this cricket ground which can hold nthe largest amount of capacity crowd of about 1 , 10 , 000 people , which is the maximum that any cricket ground of this world can .

antarctica-the common heritage...........................

Antarctica once isolated by time , distance & ignorance no longer remains the unknown continent . Since its discovery in 1820 explorers from many nations have struggled against turbulent seas , floating ice , raging storm & sub zero temperature to chart its frozen waters .

With an area of about 14 , 20 , 00 ,000 square kilometers , the frozen continent is larger than any country in the world , with only less than 5 percent visible while the rest is covered by a vast expanse of ice more than 200 meters of thick & containing 90 % of worlds ice reserve .

The Antarctica land is almost completely barren of plant life , the only ones being mosses & microscopic fungi . But the Antarctic seas are almost as rich in life as the land is barren , with plenty of fish , seals & whales as well as many smaller creations .

In the international geographical year 1957-58 12 nations co-operated

in a massive programme of Antarctic research & exploration , setting up many bases & scientific stations . The continent remains nature's unique treasure endowed with minerals , oil & food resources . Its strategic location & potential minerals resources made it a site of intense territorial competition among the nations of the world .

India , despite being late ON THE SCENE HAS DONE SOME USEFUL scientific spadework in the first two expeditions .

However , not individual efforts , but only complementery & co - operative endeavours by all nations may yeild the benefit of making Antarctica a common heritage of mankind . I

The pot & the kettle are both black . The colour of the kettle is not inherent.

It is requred during the process of boiling water . And perhaps a little cleaning will remove the stain . But the case of the pot is different . Its blackness is in born , wash it or clean it , it will still remain there . But yet the beauty is the pot calls the kettle black !

The pot & the kettle are the only euphemisms . They stand for people who are not perfect . Indeed in this world ., nobody is perfect . Every one of us , big or small , all have some kind of vice or blemish . None without a black spot . But we conviniently forget our deformity in other people . Not merely do we notice it , but also make much pf it , talk in a loud voice & proclaim it to the world around . But why???

The morals & the values we have set before us , donot allow us to honour & worship vice . A lie should put on the garb of truth before it can claim acceptance . No bad man is respected no vice is tolerated . But still knowing all this , we do not try to wipe out our black spots. We wish to pass for the virtuous & command respect . We do not think of real solution & reform us ; on the other hand , we find someone who is not so virtuous & expose his weakness to the world . It is certainly not because of sadistic tendencies in us ; but because we want to escape under the protecting sheild of comparison . A little introspection will set things right & we would stop calling the kettle black.

Imagine you are going to a public examination ; then some one sneezes ., you think it is a bad omen . You wait for a few minutes & start again . But this time a widow crosses your way . Finally when you fail , whom do you blame ? It is a superstition if you blame her . But if you do not want to blame her , you will agree that coming events cast their shadows . But the question is why should you try to put the blame on her ?It is your brain conditioned by the age old beliefs , that has played the trick .

Man makes certain emperical laws . There is no way for him to test the truth or falsehood systematically , nor can he offer a convincing explanation yet , he holds on dearly to what he deduces . As long as he does not take refuge under the laws he has made , it is not bad . But the moment he absolves himselfn of the responsibility he should bear , they become blind superstitions & unhealthy hindrances on the path of his progress.

The hooting of an owl , the willing of a dog , the cawing of a crow & many such things are superstitions . Just opposite the main gate of the college square swimming pool stands the age old shop called the PARAMOUNT . Those who stay nearby knows the aura of the shop . The shop is nearly 90 years old .

The shop is famous all over bengal for its refreshing juices .As it situated in an area that is surrounded by calcutta university, soorajmal college, hindu school , city college , so mostly the customers thronging to the shop are students .


The shop generally opens at 11 in the morning
& closes down at 9 pm . The varity of juices

On the 14th of April the bengalis celebrated the new year auspiciously . The last year 1414 (2007) ended in a grandeur & 1415 (2008) was welcomed warmly by the people of Bengal .

Every shop owner & businessman decorates there shops & offices with garlands &
flowers .A puja is offered to almighty Ganesh & goddess Laxmi , holy words are recited & chanted in front of the idols so that the coming year brings in a lot of hope & happiness .

Neighbours invite each other to their houses & greet each other with sweets & cards . Children wear new colourful clothes & offers regards to the elders .

Special bengali food are made in each & every household . Like KHICHDI
(rice & pulse mixed together with spices ) , ALOO BHAJA (potato fry), BEGUN FRY(brinjal fry),ILLISH MACHHER JHOL(hilsa fish cooked with mustard seeds),CHINGRIR MALAIKARI(lobster cooked with coconut and chilli)etc.

Today the world is being alarmed by the most dangerous issue that is shaking up all the corners of it is Global Warming . The climates of almost every countries are changing abruptly . It is a threat on this humanity & we should find a quick solution than rather succumb to it .

In India , it is the month of April 2008 but the heat is so seveare that it seems to be the month of mid - May/ June. The sea level is decreasing day by day & the temperatures are rising . The snow capped mountains of the Himalayas , Mt.Everest , etc are melting vigourously. It is being predicted by the scientists that water will vanish by planet earth after 100 years .

So , it is our duty to try & stop this destruction from happening . We should not waste water & start planting more trees around as possible .

Lets pray that we will suceed in combating this calamity.

STREET FOOD OF KOLKATA

Street food of kolkata is very much appealing to the youths of the urban KOLKATA who likes to gorge on these junk food items . Every evening , when you loiter on the footpaths of the city , u can sense the aroma of the spicy & delicious food items being served in the stalls .

These food items are sold at very nominal rates in comparison to the other states of India . From about 4 in the evening all the stalls set up there menu & all the college students & the people from the offices flock to the stalls & starts filling there palate .

the menu comprises of the well known fuchkas , alu chats , pakoras , papris , dhosas, ice cream stalls , bhelpuris , chowmeins , etc..

So we all welcome all people of the other states to visit kolkata atleast

on the 18th april 2008 history was created at the chinnaswamy stadium grounds at Bangalore where the first match of the Indian Premier League was played between the Royal Challengers , Bangalore & the Kolkata Knight Riders . The inaugration ceremony was auspicious & graceful which was managed by Dr . Vijay Malliya . Brendon Mcullum maid the night thrilling & super exciting by thrashing 10 Fours & 13 Sixes making a total score of 158 from where the Knight Riders did not have to look back . The Royal Challengers were made to bite the dust by the devastating bowling of Ishant , Ganguly & Dinda . The pressure of the huge score was always on the challengers & they succumbed to it . They made a paltry total of 83 & lost the match without giving the Knight Riders a fight. The owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders team bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was overwhelmed by this show from his own team .
